DESTINATION HISTORY – WEBSITE LAUNCHED AND NEW INITIATIVES ON THEIR WAY …

Last night (22nd March) the Destination History website pages on Visit Thanet were officially launched. Sir Alistair Hunter gave a great speech at the Pride in Thanet Tourism Awards night highlighting the importance of out of season higher margin tourism in Thanet based around our rich history. Go to the front page www.visitthanet.co.uk
Destination History is an initiative that we launched last year to attract out of season higher margin visitors to Thanet and Sandwich who are interested in our heritage.
As we all know Thanet and Sandwich boasts some of the most remarkable history with attractions, architecture and experiences to provide any visitor with a really interesting two or three days visit. The launch of the website pages is a great achievement and thanks to the Visit Thanet team, but it is only the beginning. We now need to build on this by working together to develop two or three day visits to our towns, ensure that all our tourist operators have the information that further promotes out of season activities and to encourage people to cross promote each others attractions and activities.
In addition I would like to work on developing a Thanet and Sandwich history map that can illustrate everything that we have to offer and provide our operators with an easy handout for visitors. We also want to develop some highly targeted tours for upmarket special interest groups and will be communicating this over the next few months.
While I have a strong personal interest in history, this initiative is as much about creating jobs all year round, supporting our restaurants and shops out of season and ensuring that we increase the value placed on our heritage and environment.
If you would like to join the Destination History network then please email at laura@sandys.org.uk
And if you have any events or activities that you would like to be promoted through the Destination History network then please do email me with the details.
