Having been Deputy Chairman of the Civic Trust, a leading urban conservative organisation, I believe that in Thanet and Sandwich we are surrounded by the most unique environment and some of the best architecture in the country. By putting them both together we offer our residents and visitors something very special. I do not want to see it ruined by over development and unsustainable housing targets. I would get rid of the law that allows for back garden development on the basis that back gardens are brown field sites. They are not, they are gardens and should remain gardens. Before we build more rows of identical houses, we should renovate and restore some of our beautiful buildings. Central targets from government should not dictate what happens to the housing stock in South Thanet and Sandwich. Local people should decide on the environment we want. We should get rid of central housing targets and get rid of the government that dictated them.
